1. Where Am I at Risk?
Endemic regions (most cases here or in travelers to these areas):
Southeast Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia)
Southern China
2. Am I at High Risk?
If you have a weakened immune system:
HIV/AIDS (CD4+ cell count < 100 cells/μL = highest risk)
Organ transplant (on immunosuppressive drugs)
Cancer (undergoing chemotherapy/radiation)
Long-term high-dose steroids (e.g., for lupus/asthma)
Primary immune disorders
3. Key Symptoms to Watch For
Call your doctor RIGHT AWAY if you have these (especially in endemic regions):
Systemic: Persistent high/intermittent fever, weight loss, night sweats, extreme tiredness
Skin: Small, dimple-centered bumps (umbilicated papules) on face/trunk/limbs (key clue!)
Respiratory: Cough (with mucus/blood), shortness of breath, chest pain
Other: Swollen lymph nodes, enlarged liver/spleen
