Description
Cryptococcus neoformansis one of the major causes of deep fungal infections in immunocompromised patients. Currently, the incidence rate of Cryptococcosis ranges from 5 to 10 %, while it can be as high as 30% in AIDS patients. 
Glucuronoxylomannan (GXM) is the major virulence factor secreted by C. neoformans. It is a reliable marker that is detectable in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
